Luckily, it's easier every day. When I started we had to pay expensive college fees; and software was so expensive we needed bank loans; and knowledge was rare. Then came the wonderful internet. YouTube, forums and blog are all you need now, and it's all free. Not only that, but there are so many really good pieces of software on the market, including incredible free options.
This section will be some brief conversations and training to use some software, but there are hundreds of YouTubers with tonnes of content on this already. Instead, I'm going to teach you the subtler nuances. How to learn; how to think; and how to analyse your own work. If you can develop those skills, you'll be better in life, not just at creating cool shit.
I'll start producing content for this section soon, so keep checking.
First, get comfortable with the basic pipeline. You need:
an idea (Ideation, Brainstorming)
a means to develop this idea (Pre-production)
a means to produce this idea (Production)
Finally, a means to polish and publish it. (Post-production)
This sounds simple, but in this pipeline are about 20 different skills, each of which numerous people have built entire careers on. If you only want to create videos, it's easier. Only stills, easier still (oh, the pun! ), but if, like me, you want to develop your own stories and especially Indie games, get ready for years of learning and development. It requires a vast skill set, and many of the skills are quite technical. Not daunting enough? Well, the skills that aren't technical are artistic, which means there is no right or wrong. You can spend a year working on something and most people might still hate it.
But when you achieve something; when you see your creative children birthed into life...it makes you feel whole in a way that very few things can.
Welcome to creative expression.
PS. Can't wait for my content, then check out some software called Blender, and another called DaVinci Resolve. Both brilliant, both free, and with those two alone you can do incredible things.
