In a mythical and fantastical re-imagining of ancient South-Africa, the men are off waging war and five strong, young girls are imbued with magic that develops them into adult heroes with powerful abilities, some physical, some magical. They are then given the responsibility of defending the land against a sinister evil. Though the base structure of the plot is not particularly original, the depth of character development in my script, coupled with the previously rarely seen milieu of a traditional Southern Africa and the all African female protagonists will hopefully bring several novel ideas to the market.
Much of the character development spans the theme that they are still children, only in adult bodies, and the cognitive dissonance they experience from being forced to grow up so quickly. Each character develops their own arcs, but It’s essentially a coming of age story as they fight inner doubt, lies and betrayal in order to save their home, people and ultimately themselves from the corruption that comes with power. In terms of delivery, this is a top-down point-and-click Role Playing Game with strong elements of exploration, skill tree development and specialist choices to make, as well as the collection and customisation of inventory items. Each character has a unique script set in an over-arching world script, and several elements in the game will require a different technique to unlock/access for each character. For instance, a more magical character will solve brain-teaser style puzzles, while the physically superior characters will defeat enemies or perform movement-based problem solving.
